How have cities been imagined, designed, and built along with the progress of science and technology? How have technologies been imagined, developed, and utilised in the construction of new cities?
These are some of the questions that are being discussed at the Science for the History of Technology (SHOT) conference 2016 in Singapore. This year features a session on the city, in which Professor Joss will be presenting, alongside leading researchers in the field.
He will be exploring the contemporary ‘smart’ concept, tracing its historical roots, and examining its key features and relation to ideas such as the digital city, knowledge city and eco city.
The research ties in with the SMART-ECO project, being undertaken by the International Eco-Cities Initiative and other partners.
